What is Music Therapy?

Session Settings

Living Unlimited provides music therapy in a variety of settings throughout the areas we serve.  These settings include:
  • Our treatment centers
  • Schools and child care centers
  • Supported living environments
  • Other community organizations

Our Music Therapists

All of our Music Therapists are clinically trained to enhance areas of functioning needed to promote positive change.  Each is certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (www.cbmt.org), hold a bachelor's degree from an approved music therapy program and have completed a closely supervised internship.  In addition all therapists must adhere to a recognized code of professional ethics and standards of practice.

Living Unlimited Music Therapists are accomplished in piano, voice and guitar in a wide range of musical styles.  They are knowledgeable in song composition, music theory, improvisation, and music therapy research methods.  Additionally, they are trained in assessment, treatment-planning, psychology and evaluation, thus ensuring that each therapist is familiar with major theories and models of therapy to meet the unique needs of diverse individuals receiving our services.

Living Unlimited's Program

To achieve the goals of each individual enrolled in the program, our music therapists us a variety of interventions such as:
  • Song Writing   
  • Movement to Music
  • Lyric Analysis
  • Vocal and Instrumental Improvisation
  • Relaxation                                                          
We offer structured, goal-centered therapy sessions that combine these interventions, along with others, to appropriately help each individual.  Because music therapy is a powerful, non-invasive medium, unique outcomes are possible.

Participate in Our New Program: Heard Harmony

Heard Harmony: A Musical Circle of Support and Bonding

  • For Families and Children 6 Months to 3 Years
  • 6 Week Trial: Beginning Tuesday April 9, 2013 from 6:30-7:30

Heard Harmony is a music experience focused on caregiver bonding, child development and caregiver support.  Through varied live music making experiences, children and parents will have positive bonding experiences, gain confidence, improve positive interactions in a stress free atmosphere.  As part of this program, caregivers will also gain support of others by connecting with other at weekly classes and sharing experiences in a safe and fun environment. The trial will run for 6 weeks.  The cost is $75 per child and includes a set of instruments for each family to keep.  A $25 non-refundable deposit would be collected prior to the start date to hold your spot.
